With your AirPods Pro in your ears and connected to your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth. Tap the More Info button next to your AirPods in the list of devices. Tap Ear Tip Fit Test. If you don't see the Ear Tip Fit Test, make sure that you have iOS or iPadOS 13.2 or later.

Try inserting the AirPods with the medium-sized ear tips in your ears so that the AirPods are seated comfortably and securely. If you can't get a good seal, try adjusting the AirPod or switch to a larger ear tip. If the ear tip feels too large in your ear or is uncomfortable, try a smaller ear tip.

Results of the fit test

You'll see a green or orange color there. Green: the AirPod fits your ears well. Orange: try a different ear tip.

To see which of the included ear tips provide the best seal, you can run the fit detection test on iPhone or iPad. Open the AirPods Pro case, then go to Settings on your iPhone or iPad. Tap the name of your AirPods Pro near the top of the screen, tap Ear Tip Fit Test, then follow the onscreen instructions.

AirPods Pro (1st generation) ear tips have noticeably denser mesh than AirPods Pro (2nd generation) ear tips. To check the size of an ear tip, unroll its edge and look for XS, S, M or L etched on the inside of the ear tip near the base.

Rather than create a product that could accept different size tips for different ears, Apple initially went with a one-size-fits-all approach. However, the outer part of the eardrum where the AirPods fit isn't the same size for everyone, so either the AirPods stay in your ears or they don't.

If you're convinced the size of your ear tips is correct, but you still get a bad test result, try pushing the tips into your ears more during a test. If you get good test results while doing this, the tips are probably too small, so you should swap them out with larger tips and try again.

Method 2: You can try gently putting your fingers in your ears starting with your smallest finger. Move to the next finger on each hand until you get a good seal and outside noise sounds muffled. Then try to match the size of that finger to one of the provided ear tip sizes.

Clean the ear tips of your AirPods Pro

Pull off the ear tips from each AirPod and rinse the ear tips with water. Don't use soap or other household cleaners. Wipe the ear tips with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Make sure that the ear tips are completely dry before reattaching to each AirPod.
