This week of cooking through Magnolia Table not only featured the last breakfast quiche recipe, Three – Cheese Quiche (p.25), but also Orange Scones (p.61) and Deviled Eggs (p. 133). Almost as if we were saving the best for last, this quiche recipe was quite a hit and paired beautifully with the Orange Scones. As all three of these recipes were fairly straightforward, each was pleasantly surprising in how well they were received, and several will be coming back to our table in the future!

Three – Cheese Quiche

As our third quiche recipe in the cookbook (you can read our reviews on the first and second quiche recipes here!), this dish was most definitely our favorite! Deliciously cheesy, savory and everything a quiche should be, the Three- Cheese Quiche is certainly a winner. As I used a premade pie crust, the entire process was very quick and a delight to enjoy at any time of day. Although it is slated as a breakfast recipe, I ate a slice for various meals, and it was wonderful each time. Likewise, it heats up very nicely, so if you needed to cook it the night before serving, you could serve it rewarmed or room temperature and it would be delicious.

Crowd Average Rating:

Very consistently rated across the board, this Three – Cheese Quiche gained an average rating of an 8. This quiche is a must try and while I would not change anything about the cooking process, I would be interested in adding in a little chopped bacon or ham in the future, as I believe those flavors would pair wonderfully in this dish.

Orange Scones

Following on the heals of the Three – Cheese Quiche, this Orange Scones recipe is a complete surprise. Going into this recipe, I was slightly skeptical for the results as most scones I have made or tried tend to be slightly dry and not very sweet. Contrary to those thoughts however, these Orange Scones blow any scones I have previously had out of the water. Soft, airy, fluffy, and perfectly sweet, these scones are a delicious breakfast treat that go very well with the quiche above. If you serve this combination for breakfast to guests, you will have them never wanting to leave.

Crowd Average Rating:

Among our highest rated recipes, the Orange Scones received not only an average rating of a 9, but collectively only received 9 ratings from all 3 taste testers! Honestly, I have zero improvements or thoughts of what I would do differently in the future, except that I look forward to making this recipe many times over.

Deviled Eggs

Our last recipe of the week was Joanna’s Deviled Eggs. Having not eaten Deviled Eggs in a very long time as they are not typically my favorite appetizer, I was curious to see how these would compare to my memory of deviled egg flavors. Fortunately, these Deviled Eggs were better than any that I remembered. Savory but with a touch of sweetness from the candied bacon, this recipe is a must try if you like deviled eggs. The candied bacon for this recipe is a gem and, in my opinion, makes the dish, so even though Joanna mentions it is optional, I would highly recommend including this bit.

Crowd Average Rating:

With ratings ranging from a 6 to a 9, this Deviled Eggs recipe received an average rating of a 7! As several within our group felt unsure about deviled eggs in general, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall response to this recipe. Similarly, if I made this in the future, I would not change a thing, but would be sure to include the candied bacon again!

Final Thoughts

Despite this week coming to a close, we had 3 very strong recipes, rating all above a 7! I continue to love how each recipe provides new flavors, excitements and conversations around our table or the tables that we bring them to. Either way, this challenge continues to bless my heart and I hope it is blessing yours as well.

Happy cooking!
