LVA Review
(This restaurant was reviewed in the May 2018 LVA; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate.)
In our review of Hell’s Kitchen last month, we made the point that the experience is as much a reason as the food quality to eat there. The same applies for Giada. Located right across the Strip from HK and up the inside escalator at the Cromwell, the vibe in the sprawling restaurant with seven retractable windows looking onto the bustling Boulevard (with a direct view of the Bellagio fountains) is amazing.
The food is good, too, though you have to be a bit open-minded about your Italian. For example, “spaghetti” here is prepared with shrimp, mascarpone, basil, and the key ingredient, lemon (Chef Giada likes lemon). Pasta dishes run $24-$36, chicken is $30, fish is $40, and steaks and chops are around $60. A tasting menu is $120. Everything’s à la carte, so bump the bill by another $15 or so if you want an appetizer or salad. Meals come with a good bread basket that includes home-made focaccia and crispy lavosh. There are also several vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. Giada can be a tough reservation, even though it has more seats than the Cromwell has rooms (275 to 188). If you have trouble booking dinner, an alternative is the brunch, served 9 am to 3 pm Friday-Sunday.
Avoid the Cromwell’s parking charge by parking a block away at the Stage Door (where you can also stop in before or after for a $1 Michelob; see Top Ten). And one more thing: This dinner comes with a free souvenir. Duck into the working photo booth at the top of the escalator to get your pic snapped for free.
