X100vi orders: How many?

Anyone have any metrics on the X100vi? I’m curious how many orders were placed in the first week. I just read an article stating some information has indicated that Fuji had begun producing the camera back in November which would mean they had about 60,000 units produced. If they expect to sell about 100,000 cameras then it’s not too bad, in another couple months they will be all caught up. If they expect to sell 500,000 units then it’s going to be about 2 years before some get their camera.

I have no idea how many cameras they expect to sell, and yes I understand that the initial orders far exceeded their expectations but I have no clue what they were expecting. Just curious if anyone has seen any data regarding orders, etc.

The metric that I've seen is that the factory maximum capacity is 15k units per month, and that pre-orders in China alone were in the ball park of 500k units.

So potentially much higher number if we take the whole world. I doubt we'll be able to see X100VI in stores very quickly...

I thought that 500k China number was just the number of people in a lottery to preorder?

Fujirumors suggests that 60 - 90,000 may have been manufactured pre-launch, and re-states the 15k per month production run-rate.

There remains uncertainty about some of these numbers as highlighted in subsequent Fujirumors posts

No body knows the numbers. The pre-orders in China were not correct. Amazon Germany doesn't list the camera, and I have not yet seen a German dealer who says it is in stock.

That’s correct. It’s a lottery for the opportunity to order. Based on what I see for actual orders fulfilled, the number of physical cameras available in China on launch day was laughably small. T-Mall (Alibaba brand platform) is showing only 63 cameras sold.

Taobao/T-mall and JD are the two biggest platforms so we can assume JD got a similar number. It’s going to be a long, long wait. Maybe people who are thinking to pay a premium in the resale market should consider a used Leica Q2 instead…

"indicating that there are accounts of 349,000 individuals attempting to pre-order the X100V from a single website in China during its launch."

That could mean anything. Multiple attempts by one user, added to cart, etc.

"I was told by a unique source that the number of pre-order lottery tickets for Fujifilm's `` FUJIFILM X100VI '' in China has exceeded 500,000 people, including black and silver. At least in Kyoto JD, there seems to be a bias toward silver."

Entering a lottery to buy is not the same as actually ordering a camera.

From the linked article:

  • This pre-order does not require the customer to pay any money.
  • If you win, you will be eligible to purchase.
  • In other words, you can buy it (you don't have to buy it).

Patrick shouldn't do math or forecasts at the best of times. He takes a rumor, adds a comment by a random, throws that in a cup with some leaves, and then comes up with his expert take on something.

Think about it. IF Fujifilm had 60k - 90k cameras ALREADY manufactured at the time of the announcement, why did not a single shop, region or distributor have cameras to cash in on the immediate hype?

I can imagine the 15k production run, but the #FujiLeaks and math used to get to 60k-90k figure are at best things of fairytales.

I chatted with Adorama prerelease and they said they had 1500 black and 1500 silver preorders (about 3 days ago) and had no idea how many they would have to send out (I'm guessing they did, but won't disclose those numbers to avoid cancellations).

Locally, in Wisconsin, we have 2 major shops. One had 11 preorders and were getting 3 in initially. The other had 5 preorders and were getting 3 as well (I'm next in line). Both stated they had no idea when they would get more.

BH wouldn't give any details, but I was told the next morning that they had well over the amount they would be able to send out initially.

On another note, Adorama said they only had 1 preorder for the new Sigma 500mm 5.6 for Sony so far. Which was surprising as people have been asking for the equivalent of the Nikon 500 pf forever. Price point maybe? Who knows. I'm very interested in this one for hiking though. Lighter and supposed to be super sharp.
