What Brand of Grass Seed Do Professionals Use? | Jonathan Green (2024)

Have you ever wondered what brand of grass seed professionals use? The answer is Jonathan Green Black Beauty®!

Jonathan Green has been growing great looking lawns for six generations, ever since our English ancestor Jonathan Green experimented in the late 1880s with different grasses and combinations of “grass families” in an attempt to improve the quality of bowling green turf, eventually constructing greens in towns all over the north of England.

Today, we are a leading supplier of top-quality cool season grass seed, soil enhancers, fertilizer, and organic lawn and garden products to sod growers, consumers, and independent retailers, including garden centers and hardware stores, across the United States. Our genetically superior grass seed and soil food products will transform your lawn and help it to thrive.

Choose the Best Seed

If you want the best-looking grass in the neighborhood, be sure to choose the highest quality grass seed. Jonathan Green Black Beauty® grass seed mixtures look so much like Kentucky bluegrass that even the pros have difficulty distinguishing Black Beauty® from bluegrass.

Jonathan Green Black Beauty® grass seeds are:

  • Deeply rooted (up to 4 feet)
  • Disease resistant
  • Drought tolerant because of the invisible waxy leaf coating that preserves moisture in the plant (similar to the wax on an apple).
  • Naturally dark green
  • Uniform in leaf size and texture
  • Contain Endophytes for natural insect resistance

Water Properly

Water the seedbed a little bit every day to keep the newly planted grass seed wet while it germinates.Light watering twice or three times a day – in the early morning, early afternoon, and late afternoon – will keep young seedlings moist, helping them germinate fully and grow into strong grass plants.

If the soil gets too dry, the germination process will stop, so don’t allow the tender seedlings to dry out. One way to prevent this is to use Jonathan Green Top Dress™ Seedling Cover and Growth Accelerator to keep moisture close to the seed for the best establishment.

After a few weeks, reduce watering to two to three times a week and water deeply, at least 30 minutes in each zone. This sends water deep down into the root zone and promotes deeper root growth.

Fertilize

Encourage your new grass seed to grow quicker and thicker with Veri-Green Starter Fertilizer for Seeding & Sodding. This high-phosphorus formula helps to build a robust root system, gets new grass plantings off to a fast start for a thicker, greener lawn, and will continue feeding your lawn for up to two months.
